#172 - Red Alert

Rua Braancamp today at lunch time was virtually deserted because of the heat which was felt, and the red alert given by the authorities.
Exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun can lead to acute and chronic problems, with serious effects on health, particularly of the skin, eyes and immune system. In this context, in regions with very high rate, between 8 and 10, it is recommended the use of sunglasses with UV protection, hat, T-shirt, umbrella, sunscreen and avoid exposure of children to the sun. When the index is equal to or greater than 11, the recommendations seek to avoid as much as possible exposure to sun and to take rest at home.
The district of Lisbon was today in the red level, the first and most dangerous of a scale of three, defined under the Plan Contingency for waves of heat. This level is very high temperatures that can bring serious problems to health.

What a gorgeous photo you shot to illustrate the Red Alert!! At first I thought it was going to have something to do with George The Red Head Hunter, lol. Fantastic scene!!

In a few ways it has, but not about redheads!

My goodness! I had no idea the temperatures and UVR reached such levels there. Someone was very wise to issue alerts to the dangers. Here where I live, we mostly have "heat-index" alerts, and calls for donations of fans and air-conditioners for the elderly and people who are confined to home because of disability. But, that usually does not occur until late July and into August.
A good photo!

What about those places where the temparatures are far higher than Lisbon? like 44 degree centigrades and above. I guess lisbon has comparatively lower side of tempratures.

I remember "Code Red" days in D.C. No fun at all. Here, it may be hot and humid, but never the pollution or stagnant air that used to result in alerts. Hope it gets better.

I thought your post was going to be something about MacDonalds! Goodness, I don't think I could cope with that sort of temperature, I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
